Swatch of Pink cables

I decided that I wanted to learn to knit cables. Soo, I did.
As you can see this is just a little swatch with scrap yarn.
But, considering I just started knitting, and I have no clue what I'm doing majority of the time (LOL), I was happy that I semi-figured it out.

There's the wrong side. As you can see, I didn't figure out that I should purl next to the cable so it would pop more until I almost finished the swatch.  I'm sure there are many other tips and tricks for cables, that's as far as I got the other day.
Now, I need to finish the four UFO's I have in my life right now: two quilt tops waiting to be basted and quilted, my sister's afghan, and the waffle knitted scarf. Then I wouldn't feel quite so bad starting something new. Tonight though, I may have to divert because my sister's birthday is on Sunday and I'd like to make her a little something. =). SHHH.

A new student =)

Yesterday Billy was kind of bored..it was raining a little and he couldn't figure out what he wanted to do. So I offered to teach him how to knit or crochet. He said: "Nooooo, that stuff is for old ladies!!!" LOL. I had him cracking up telling him all of the awesome things he could make if he learned. He wouldn't budge. Soo, I offered to teach him how to sew, and he was like "YES! I've been wanting to learn!". I was like whatttttt?? okay.  Using scrap fabric from this quilt, we made a little Optimus Prime pillow, with hand sewing only. And seriously, he sewed more than 2/3 of it, aside from me showing him how to make the stitches and taking a little break. =). Guys, I was impressed. And he was so very proud of himself.

AND--now he's agreed to learn to crochet  AND knit. HAHA victory! He asked me if we could make something every time he's at our house. SO, I need to find/think of more projects for kids. I'm just thrilled to bits.

tulle flowers in mah hairrr

Hey ya'll! I actually made something.
Finally.
I went over to Joann's today and picked up a few different shades of tulle: Light pink, coral pink, and gray. I figured I could experiment with fabric flowers and see what I come up with.

This is only using the gray and light pink..it's probably around thirty layers of tulle. There are a poop ton of fabric flower tutorials out there, so I'm not going to go through with pictures or anything, plus I don't want to step on anyone's toes. But basically I cut out a five petal flower shape, then folded up the tulle and cut through the layers. I then sewed the layers together with pink thread and tried to pinch the bottom a little so it would be more three dimensional. Then I sewed it to a hair clip. It was super easy and quick--and tulle is so inexpensive you could make a ton of these for very little money. I think it would really look nice if you added some glass beads or pearly beads to the middle, but I didn't have any on hand.

My favorite way is on the back on my head, like on a low ponytail in the top picture. I tried to take a picture with a mirror and my arms over my head blindly so that's why the picture isn't very good haha.
So yeah.. that's it for that!

Wedding plans are moving right along, and I've been able to check a few things off the list in the past two days which is awesome. Murphy is responding well to his new medicine and the probiotics I got him so that's good..and little Billy is officially done kindergarten as of last week..summer is in full swing. It seems like it was yesterday when he was just starting pre school..and now he's a big bad first grader. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly time flies. It's a good reminder to cherish all the moments you can.
Until next time...

well this is embarrassing...

Um..I might be the worst blogger ever.
Sorry---as if anyone was really disappointed that I wasn't writing..LOL.
I've been a bit overwhelmed, and making serious wedding plans, and Murphy has been back and forth to the vet constantly.
It turns out we picked the puppy who has small intestine bacterial overgrowth, also being referred to as antibiotic responsive diarrhea. So, after several vet trips and several hundred dollars spent, we now have the poor guy on long term antibiotics and prescription i/d food (which hopefully we can switch him to regular food soon...$29 for an 8.5 lb bag..and he eats like 6 cups a day). Honestly, it's been a little stressful and I feel really bad for him (although by the way he acts you could never tell he's not completely healthy). Gah, okay. Enough of my complaining.
I have actually missed writing. I'm not very structured or probably even very good at it, but there's something about being able to put your thoughts out there which is just nice.
I haven't sewed much of anything as of late, something you probably figured out by my lack of posting. I have, however, been semi-diligently knitting along at that waffle scarf  showed you guys. It's now almost resembling something that might just be a scarf one day when it grows up. =). ALSO, and I'm super duper pumped and dorky about this...I've been reading about and watching youtube videos on spinning. Like spinning wool and yarn and stuff. HAHA I seriously now want a spinning wheel. AND--I've also been reading up on canning. And I now want to can homemade apple sauce and apple butter and jams and jellies and homegrown vegetables (from the vegetable garden I never got around to planting of course). Because I clearly have time to learn to do all that on top of still needing to finish a bazillion sewing, crochet, and knitting endeavors. Totally. I'm sure that one day I will have figured out how to manage my time and life in an effective way. Currently though, it's just chaos.
In wedding planning news, we've been officially engaged a month and a day..and we have our ceremony and reception venue picked out and booked and the deposit given. So that feels good. I have meetings set up with the catering manager, a day to go wedding dress shopping, and potential meetings with photographers. I feel legit.
Hopefully I'll have something to show you guys soon, and my next post won't just be my blathering excuses as to why (again) it's been sooooo long since I last posted. =). I'm sure you'll be waiting with bated breath, right?
